KUNG PAO BRUSSELS SPROUTS

I laugh at my self whenever I type "brussels sprouts" because for much of my life I did not realize there was an "s" at the end of brussels. I didn't know they were named after Brussels, Belgium. Live and learn. This recipe is easy and delicious. If you don't like brussels sprouts use broccoli or cauliflower instead. My husband would have preferred some soy curls in it too.

The original recipe is by Cookie + Kate: Kung Pao Brussels Sprouts

Brussels sprouts are a cruciferous vegetable. Cruciferous vegetables have strong anti-cancer phytonutrients so are often called "super foods." See photo section for a list of cruciferous vegetables.

To get the optimal anti-cancer benefits you want to use Dr. Greger's "Hack and Hold" technique as he describes in this video:

Second Strategy to Cooking Broccoli

What I did differently:

-Did not use oil to roast the brussels sprouts. They will brown nicely without oil.

-Used maple syrup instead of honey

-Reduced the sesame oil to 1/2 tsp

-I like spice so used 2 tsp sriracha

-Did not have peanuts so left out. I did add 3 chopped green onions, 1/4 cup cilantro, and sprinkled with red pepper flakes

-Since my brussels sprouts were large I quartered most of them and baked for 35 minutes
