SEASONED TOFU CRUMBLES

Crumbles are so easy to make and taste great! You can use them for sandwiches, salads, pizza, or eat them by the handfuls as a snack. Below are 3 seasoning mix options or create your own.

The “bacon” seasoning is one I created through the inspiration of several different recipes. The “sausage” seasoning recipe is by Cindy at “Veggie Fun Kitchen” blog and the “chorizo” seasoning recipe is by Sam at “It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken” blog.

"Chorizo" Crumbles

Seasoning ingredients

2 Tablespoons soy sauce (I used reduced sodium tamari)

1 Tablespoon apple cider vinegar

1 Tablespoon chili powder

1/4 teaspoon ground coriander

1/8 teaspoon ground cloves

I added a bit of cayenne

Instead of oil I used 2 Tablespoons water

Instructions

1. Drain the tofu. Wrap the tofu block in a kitchen cloth and set something heavy on top. I use my cast iron pan. Let it press for about 30 minutes.

2. While tofu is draining, place the seasoning ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk to combine well.

3. Crumble the tofu into the bowl using your fingers to pinch off small pieces. Mix until well combined.

4. Spread the crumbles on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven, center rack, for about 15-20 minutes.Toss. Bake for another 15-20 minutes or until done to desired crispness.
