WHOLE WHEAT HERB-LICIOUS BREADSTICKS
Sneak some nutrients into your family using white whole wheat flour to make these delicious breadsticks. If you have young children around, they will have fun rolling these out...the dough is very easy to work with. The recipe is from “Spark Recipes” and it says that the dough makes an amazing pizza crust but I have not tried that yet.
WHOLE WHEAT HERB-LICIOUS BREADSTICKS
Ingredients
1 cup hot water (hottest that you can get from the tap, about 110 F)
1 package (2 1/4 teaspoon) quick-rise yeast
1 Tablespoon maple syrup
2 cups white whole wheat flour (can use whole wheat)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
Herbs of choice, to taste (I used Italian Seasoning)
Instructions
Combine hot water, yeast and maple syrup in small bowl or measuring cup. Stir and let sit while you're mixing the other ingredients. It should get foamy on top.
Combine the rest of the ingredients in bigger bowl.
Add yeast mixture to the dry ingredients.
Knead for a minute or two by hand. You might need to add a little more water or a little more flour to get the consistency perfectly dough-y.
Cover bowl and set in warm place to rest for 30 min. If you have time, you can let it rest for an hour or until doubled.
Place the dough on a floured surface and knead for a minute to form a smooth ball.
Cut the dough into 8 pieces. Roll each into the shape of a breadstick.
Place breadsticks on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover with a towel. Let rise for about 1 hour.
Bake in a pre-heated 400 degree oven for about 12 minutes or until golden brown.
